About the Edition

Answers a need for an integrative object relations model that can be understood and applied by the clinician in daily psychoanalytic therapy. It is the object relations viewpoint, for Summers, that best addresses criticisms of classical psychoanalysis andego psychology while retaining the depth-psychological focus of psychoanalytic therapy.

[Frank Summers] -- In Transcending the Self: An Object Relations Model of Psychoanalytic Therapy, Summers answers the need for an integrative object relations model that can be understood and applied by the clinician. The voices of Transcending embrace the beauty of the relative self and identity as a ground from, which we began our work of liberation. This anthology is more than a book about transgender Buddhist practitioners sharing their lives; it is a text that will save the lives of countless transgender and queer practitioners who need to know that.

Calling is self-transcendence still seems to emphasize a self that’s trying to transcend. In that case it sounds like the self might somehow remain after the transcending. Of course just saying transcendence doesn’t say what it is that’s being raises deep metaphysical issues about ego transcendence. Awakening & Ascending Together. Transcending limitations to a consciousness of one. Healing through love, compassion, kindness & peace.

Transcendence is to accept the natural world, is to let it be itself in the Taoistic fashion, is the transcendence of the lower needs of the self—that is, of one’s selfish within-the-skin demands, of one’s egocentric judgments upon extrapsychic things as being dangerous or not dangerous, edible or not edible, useful or not useful, etc. Self-transcendence is a personality trait that involves the expansion of personal boundaries, including, potentially, experiencing spiritual ideas such as considering oneself an integral part of the universe. Several psychologists, including Viktor Frankl, Abraham Maslow, Pamela G. Reed, C. Robert Cloninger and Lars Tornstam have made contributions to the theory of self-transcendence.

Following two chapters that present the empirical and theoretical basis of the model, he launches into clinical applications by presenting the concept of therapeutic action that derives from the model.5/5(3).
